School Chaplain Vacancy

Sathya Sai Primary School, Murwillumbah NSW is a non-religious, coeducational K- 6 institution with a present enrolment of approximately 100 students. The primary focus of the school is to provide and model a safe school environment based on Sathya Sai Education in Human Values which honours the uniqueness of all children, enabling them to realise their inner potential for character development and academic success.

There are employment opportunities for a SCHOOL CHAPLAIN under the National School Chaplaincy Programme on behalf of the school community.

A Sathya Sai Primary School chaplain would be required to deliver the following services to the school and its community:

  • support the ethos and philosophy of the school based on the values of love, peace, truth, right conduct and non-violence.
  • provide general pastoral care and counselling to parents and students of the school
  • provide support to students and staff to create an environment of cooperation and respect,
  • promoting an understanding of diversity and the range of religious affiliations and their traditions;
  • respecting the range of religious views and cultural traditions in the school and the broader community and also respecting the rights of parents/guardians to ensure the religious and moral education of their children is in line with their own convictions;
  • work in a wider spiritual context to support students and staff of all religious affiliations and not seeking to impose any religious beliefs or persuade an individual toward a particular set of religious beliefs;
  • being approachable by all students, staff and members of the school community of all religious affiliations
  • abide by the National School Chaplaincy Programme Code of Conduct and have an endorsement by a recognised or accepted religious institution or a state/territory government approved chaplaincy service (please refer to: http://www.deewr.gov.au/Schooling/NationalSchoolChaplaincyProgram/Pages/guidelines.aspx
  • operating within a strong ethical framework which supports and upholds the Values for Australian Schooling
  • formal counselling, psychology or social work qualifications will be of benefit
