The Values We Teach

The school gives prominence to character development through a Human Values Program and by providing a friendly and caring environment. The program is in line with the recommendations of the NSW Dept. of Education's document "The Values We Teach", and is based on universal ethical values that are common to all cultures and creeds. Values education hinges on five prime values - Love, Truth, Peace, Right Conduct and Non Violence and is taught through sub-values such as caring, sharing, honesty, helpfulness, justice, fairness, self esteem, responsibility, reliability, democracy etc. These values are imprinted through weekly lessons using seven teaching techniques - Quotes, Silent Sitting, Creative visualisation, Mindmaps, Song/Music, Story and Group Activity. In this way children acquire a language of values and through the seven teaching techniques acquire an understanding and an awareness of values in their daily lives.

Integration into General Curriculum

The values are reinforced by having a total school culture based on the values and by integrating the values into the general curriculum. By immersing children in such an atmosphere we are providing them with the powerful tools of self discipline, self awareness, self esteem and discrimination to guide and protect them through the difficult adolescent years to adulthood. Such students will have acquired moral character based on an understanding and awareness of their humanness.
